Next Stop: The Astral Plane.
Watching Episode 23 of Hetalia, I was oddly touched by the sibling relationship between Switzerland and Liechtenstein (or by Switzerland's attitude to Liechtenstein, at least; Liechtenstein's emulation of Switzerland is just a tiiiiny bit creepy), and also struck by Switzerland's voice, although I didn't quite know why.

And then I discovered that the voice actors for Switzerland and Liechtenstein also voice Edward and Alphonse, respectively, of Fullmetal Alchemist.

I have no idea how a Fullmetal Alchemist/Hetalia crossover would work (it is rather difficult to justify the concept of characters meeting the personifications of Earth's nations when the characters in question do not live on Earth), but I want one immediately. Perhaps Ed and Al do not have to meet Switzerland and Liechtenstein; perhaps Switzerland and Liechtenstein are just setting out on a quest for the Philosopher's Stone. I do not know why Switzerland and Liechtenstein would need the Philosopher's Stone, but I'm sure there's some reason.

PERHAPS LIECHTENSTEIN WANTS TO TRANSMUTE HERSELF INTO SWITZERLAND. An incredibly creepy desire, but not one I would put past Liechtenstein. As her country is quite a bit smaller than Switzerland's, she needs the Stone to bypass the equivalent exchange rule. Switzerland is under the impression that they need the Stone for some other purpose, because I am not sure he would approve of his little sister trying to turn herself into him.

Of course, this entry will make sense to about two of you, as very few people on my flist know either Fullmetal Alchemist or Hetalia and even fewer are familiar with both, but apparently I feel the need to post it anyway.


The night before last, I dreamt that I met Derren Brown. After we had talked for a while, he embraced me intimately, in what I suspect was purely an attempt to mess with my head, and then he turned into a cat.

There is a part of me that is now convinced I actually did have a conversation with Derren Brown, because obviously he is capable of psychically projecting himself into my subconscious for a chat.

SO, BASICALLY, DERREN BROWN, YOU HAVE MADE ME INSANE.

I really wanted to leave a comment pretending to be Derren Brown, saying "That's okay, Riona. By the way, do you have any Whiskas going spare? I'm hungry", but I couldn't find the energy to set up an LJ account just for that. It's too hot.

I am mildly disappointed that you did not do this, but as such a comment would probably have shattered my mind's present fragile grasp on reality it may be for the best.

For the most part, my dreams involving you haven't been too bad, actually. Apart from the one in which I woke to see you applying Joker makeup. That was just terrifying.

It's all down to the mighty Adam Hills. I saw him on Mock The Week, liked him, searched for him on youtube, and found Spicks and Specks, et voila! Hamish Blake and his awesome.

I'm sure this has been mentioned to you before, or you've found it at one point, but you should really podcast the Hamish and Andy show (http://www.fox.com.au/listen). Or if you time it right you could probably listen to them live, but as I've never tried that out of the country you might not be able to. =\

Also Spicks and Specks is one fabulous show. xD I watch it whenever I manage to not forget it's on, and it's always awesome. Adam Hills is a hilarious man.

AND IT'S CREEPY.

I mean, the conversation was pleasant enough, and he was very sweet when I apologised for sending him a ukulele in a fit of madness (he obviously hadn't actually received it, but he seemed very amused and wrote a thank-you note in my notebook), but hugging people inappropriately and taking pleasure in their understandable subsequent flusterment is just evil, Derren.

I understand your Hetalia/FMA confusion! I was far too delighted when I found it out myself, long before this episode aired. So I would read that theoretical crossover with bells on. And, er, speaking of this episode, I don't remember that last scene with Germany and the Italies being quite so dirty in the manga. O.o OH HETALIA, SO DETERMINED TO OUT-GAY THE STUFF THAT HAS ACTUAL GAY SEX IN IT.

Hooray! I was actually specifically thinking of you when I was writing that almost nobody would understand the crossover concept. Hetalia/Fullmetal Alchemist crossover-desire high-five!

I was rather startled by the incestuous implications in the episode, I have to admit, because I had been under the impression that the anime was trying to tone things down. BUT NO: INSTEAD GERMANY GETS EXTREMELY STRANGE IDEAS ABOUT THE ITALY BROTHERS.

I once had an idea for an FMA/Supernatural crossover. I think I've mostly forgotten it now, but one of my reasons for never doing anything with it was that I rather doubted it would have much of an audience. :P Why can't everyone just watch everything I watch? It would make things so much easier!

It's not as much that the anime is trying to tone things down as it is that it's just not including most of the really, really dubious bits--I don't think we'll ever get the Valentine's Day special, for instance, and unlike the manga the Italies weren't naked together in that segment. But on the other hand we did get the bit where Italy talks about what kind of porn Germany's into, and, uh, extremely strange ideas about the Italy brothers. So the anime is kind of schizophrenic about these things, I think. Nudity is wrong but implied incest is A-OK? Mysterious.

Of course, the real question is if the anime will ever say exactly why the Italy brothers getting their hair tangled together is significant. *cough* YOUR IDEAS ARE NOT ENTIRELY INACCURATE, GERMANY.

I am sure the crossover will have an audience! There are fourteen thousand people in the Hetalia fandom; surely at least a few of them will be familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist.

I really, really, really want them to do the Valentine's Day special. Come on, anime! One tiny adorable terrible proposal! It is nothing compared to what you just implied!

The problem with the Valentine's Day special is that it's way too long for a 4 min. 20 sec. episode. They'd have to devote at least two solid episodes to it, maybe three--and then there's the issue of "well, what the hell happened next?". The manga can get away with being coy, because it just skips all over the timeline anyway, but the anime would have to get back to WWII Germany and Italy within a couple episodes, because that's the main focus. Although I suppose they could just be a total bitch and not give any follow-up at all. That possibility seems worryingly likely.

So the first time in four days I manage to not dream anything in particular, and both you and Draco have fascinatingly freaky dreams? Is there like an exchange system or something?

Although yours sounds more fun.

(I had Jeremy Clarkson appear in a dream the day before yesterday. He seemed oddly convinced I was Richard Hammond, and used up all the hot water. On the upside, arguing with him about the hot water kept me away from the wall the car drove through.)
