Beer: the collegiate perfume!
So I'm listening to This American Life's newest podcast about Penn State ("#1 Party School") and feeling pretty superior since I was never one of those partying college students. I decide, 'Hey, I haven't had a beer in a long time, I haven't had a drink in a long time, I feel like a beer.' So I go to open the only beer in the house, a Michelob Lite, and proceed to spill it all over my t-shirt and the kitchen floor. Which is a wooden floor. So now I, the floor and the kitchen smell like bad beer. The floor is sticky. No one in this house drinks, and I now resemble a frat party. ~CLASSY.~ |

Despite not having listened to the charts in approximately four years, after being forced to choose between freezing to death in my room or being stuck in warm downstairs listening to all the schmaltzy washed out lifeless tuneless pointless pathetic piss-weak derivative drivel on X-Factor for the past few weeks same as every other December, I can safely say I approve of this year's number 1. Would've preferred it last year 'cause if there's one thing I dislike more than a limp-voiced, poptastic generic vocalist covering an already shitty song it's a warbly Mariah Carey soundalike butchering a song that I half-like (even if I do prefer the Wainwright version to Buckley), but still, I have a thing for slightly lazy Facebook-based anarchy. Not to mention I love that song. Mr Wilkie: *eyes Phil's RATM shirt curiously* Rage against what machine? Phil: THE MACHINE THAT YOU'RE A PART OF. |

Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me...
Rage Against The Machine beat the X-Factor Kid (please, do not ask me what his name is - I have no idea) to the Christmas No. 1! Score one for Facebook, eh? Power to the people, and all that. And I did my part, I bought the song from iTunes. I've got nothing against the kid, but I do get so sick of the X-Factor winner getting to No. 1 every year. People pre-order the damn song without even hearing it, it's got nothing to do with music. It's so manufactured. And I really can't stand Simon Cowell, he's so smug.

So tired. Been dismantling the TV unit thing (well OK my dad did this), putting up the new bookshelf (he did most of this too) and putting the books and everything on the shelf (I did this, it's way harder than it sounds) (and I made a casserole. mmm... casserole *is impatient waiting for it to finish cooking*). Also I'm now all sneezy and itchy because there's so much dust turned up by moving the furniture around and I think I have dust allergies anyway. I have no idea how to keep the room clean though, there's just no way I can vacuum every day (since I end up half-crippled using the vacuum for even a few minutes, it's so bloody heavy to push round and I can't bring it upstairs myself either) and even if I could vacuum the open spaces, there's places you can't reach without taking everything out of the cupboards/off the shelves and pulling them out. And dusting just pushes most of the dust around, it doesn't get rid of it. So... meh. Hopefully (funds allowing I suppose) next year though I should be getting a hard floor not a carpet (my carpet is supposed to be blue; it's grey now, urgh) so maybe that will be a bit easier to keep clean. I still haven't finished sorting things out though, though I've gained book space (most of my books were in boxes before) I've lost some CD space since now the TV and the DVD player are on the cupboard that my smaller CD racks were on so I can't put those back on there. I think at new year I'm going to have to do a super-ruthless clearout of things. Current Mood: exhausted |

what the hell was Mozart on, anyway?
I have just spent two hours reading Gothic romance (The Italian, if you're wondering) and daydreaming about writing a faux-straight-faced parody of the genre for the TV (it would be called Castles! Corsets! Conspiracy!, perhaps), whilst listening to The Magic Flute which my dad had put on seemingly just so he could read the English translation dramatically to us IN REAL TIME. It was a good way to spend two hours, if you're wondering. * Life update: I AM BREATHING LIKE DARTH VADER. Fuck yeah. Further life update: I cannot decide what I want to do with myself. There is spn_j2_xmas and j2_everafter, and there are several non-challenge fics I want to write too, and then there is original fiction and writing competitions and my end-of-unit short story due in the week I go back to uni, and also there is a PRESENTATION I have to work on, and then there is this whole big thing I've been on the verge of getting started for like a month. FFFFF obviously because I am so uselessly indecisive, the upshot of all this uncertainty is that everything has stalled. Now that I'm a week into the Christmas holidays, the remaining three weeks don't seem very long at all. :[ You know what this calls for? DEAR DUMBLEDORE, PLEASE SEND ME A TIME-TURNER. THANKS, TREE. xxx Current Mood: darth vader |

A friend of my mum's was over this afternoon and as they've done all my life, they sat there talking about boring stuff that I'm really not interested in, so I took off upstairs to play my keyboard a little bit (I'm teaching myself to play Bambino by Nice Men and the Bad Boys - difficult for someone who doesn't actually play the piano) but during one of the times when I was downstairs, Mum was telling this friend of hers about my adventures with Ed Byrne a couple of weeks ago (went down well - neither the friend, nor her husband, nor her brother had heard of him) when Dad piped up "Oh, he was on Radio 2 this morning, on Christian O'Connell". "Oh" says I nonchalantly. "Why on earth didn't I know that?!?" thinks I furiously. Once the visitors were gone, I retreated to iPlayer to listen. It's actually on 5 Live, but you know, it's a joy, and it's currently download-and-keep-able. Twice he leaps on the picky and pedantic thing, jumping on people for using barter when they mean haggle, and it was lovely. Then there was some mock-stroppiness when he didn't win several rounds in a row, some indignation on behalf of under-35s, several times when he started to say something but got interrupted or talked over (which is something he's not very good at, and he quite often ends up falling silent because he can't get a word in) and then he got in my favourite thing ever. "If you like the new stuff, buy the DVD. If you prefer my old stuff, buy Michael McIntyre's DVD." This is met with half-shocked, half-delighted laughter and someone exclaiming "People have edged around it for the last few weeks but someone's gone in for the kill!". They'd already mentioned Michael McIntyre and Ed had been very diplomatic, as has just about everyone on the subject or related ones, but I had my suspicions and I'm quite glad they've been quite bluntly confirmed. Only two more days of work!
How can Christmas be so near? I don't know where the time has gone! I can't believe it's Christmas on Friday. We still have snow here, not a lot now, but enough that everything is pretty and white. But the roads are clear, thankfully. I think we are forecast more though. I just hope the roads are clear enough for me to get home to Derbyshire on Tuesday evening, and then up to my aunt's in Wilmslow on Christmas Eve. Then it can snow to its heart's content! It was my aunt's 70th birthday yesterday (the one who lives in Northampton, not the one in Wilmslow), so we had the whole family round at hers for a party, and my brother and parents stayed over with me last night. I was hoping it wouldn't snow heavily, because I didn't want them all stuck with me! But it was nice to see everyone before Christmas, and it really felt like Christmas, you know? The lights and the tree and the presents and the songs on the stereo and the snow glistening outside and softly falling. I was getting quite sappy. Hell, I needed to. Bloody United. 3-0 to Fulham? What the hell was that? *facepalms* If we'd won against Villa and Fulham we'd be ahead of Chelsea right now - as it is, we'll probably end today six points behind unless West Ham do us a favour, which is pretty damn unlikely. *headdesk* Typical bloody United, always making life difficult for themselves. Grrrr.

MY MCWEATHERFAIL CARD HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY REVOKED!
So this morning Casper came in to wake me up at half eight. This was odd; I'd left him food and water last night so there was no reason for him to bug me that early. I grumbled at him, turned over and went back to sleep until my alarm went off at half nine at which point I hit snooze, because the only reason you set your alarm for half nine on a Sunday is to feel good that you meant to get up early. Then you just ignore it and sleep in anyway. Only, it was oddly quiet and oddly dark and I wondered if the cool frost was still around from last night (it made fern patterns across the cars). For no reason I dragged myself out of bed and opened the curtains. Onto snow. Lots and lots (for us) of snow. Needless to say, fifteen minutes later I was dressed and out the house with the camera and I stayed out for some hours, during which I took 231 pictures. I haven't uplaoded all of them because lots had wet smudges from falling snow and some were blurry and some were the same thing. But I've uploaded... quite a few. I love snow. I ran around the house shrieking in excitement this morning. Hence, picspam overload. ( LOOK AT THE PRETTY OF MY SNOW :DDDD )Oh snow. I wish you'd never melt. <3 It's hailstoning/snowing again now so I hope it'll still be around tomorrow. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow but still have snow so... we'll see. :) edit: I think I finally fixed all my tags. Maybe. Current Mood: happyCurrent Music: Olympia show jumping on TV |
